The Red Rock’s been MIA for a while, but I’m back and ready to come out swingin’
So much has happened. I moved shop out of BH to the OC’s lovely city of Irvine. Trés swank, like Hilary. (There are more Bentley’s here than in BH!) All three of the shorts; Cuidado, Puppet, and The Cafeteria are now sold. Thanks Ouat! My fav short film distribution company in the world
I just submitted the short Washing for a similar deal and I’m waiting for the paperwork to come in. I’ve switched movies on my first feature from a horror to a futuristic sci-fi thriller, which is way meatier, and I’m haulin’ tail to get it written in time for submission to Cannes this year… I have less than 41 days! Yes I’m slightly losing it, but the story is coming together quite well.
I attended (and volunteered at) a lovely benefit for Japan hosted by CAPE, the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment, of which I am a proud, card carrying, cape wearing member (pun not intended…maybe). The pictures are on facebook, but I will be posting my own soon. I’ve seen a few great advanced screenings including Catherine hardwicke’s Red Riding Hood, which was phenomenal and very scary. I’m left wondering what Twilight New Moon would have been like with her at the helm, being that her Red Riding wolf was so scary, and the whole film so breathtakingly shot, just gorgeous…
I am gearing up to finish the script, pitch it to investors, get it shot, make a killing at the box office and be able to begin construction on Red Diamond Films Inc.’s first real studio… one that’s not at home with me, LOL. Prayers are desperately needed. ![]()
Love , Peace & God Bless,
Nadia

I just got home from the WIF Crystal Lucy Awards 2010; A fabulous night of pioneering Film'Istas and fierce yet painful stilettos
So painful in fact, Debra Messing, who was hosting, took her 6 inchers off halfway through the show and said "you saw them, you get the point" to which laughter errupted. I was late and unfortunately missed Colbie Callat's performance, but the food was fab and I got a quick chance to talk to Zoe Saldana afterward to let her know how proud I am whenever i see her on screen. She was extremely gracious. She received the Maxmara face of the future award this year, which was the main reason I was so excited for this years awards. She gave a great acceptance speech about being from Queens and not knowing the ins and outs of the business starting out so much so that she didn't know what SAG was when she landed her first paying commercial, "I just got paid, i have to give my money to what organization?!". She talked about what it has meant to her to be fortunate enough to reap the fruits of her mother and grandmother's struggle as immigrants to America. And she offered herself as first in line to play the world's first pregnant super hero; chasing down bad guys while holding a salami and hostage negotiating while downing a tub of ice cream. Everyone laughed, but I'm sure Bruckheimer already has that deal waiting for her. It would make a cool movie.
The celeb sightings were fun; David Arquette texting on his blackberry waiting for the valet, a few feet away while I waited in line to pay valet as well. He was waiting for his wife Courtney Cox-Arquette who was given the Lucy award tonight. When she walked by I wanted so bad to tell her how Friends is still my all-time favorite show and how i watch the re-runs and gut laugh everytime, no matter how many times I've seen the same episode, but her throng of handlers were in the way and I didn't want to be a nuisance, so next time. Isla Fisher walked past me and I didn't know she was pregant because I don't read gossip mags, which have probably told the whole world already. But her little perfect basketball belly bump was so cute it was hard not to look. Sally Field presented an award and I can't lie, i was in drop-jaw awe when she walked by my table and completely missed what the next presenter was saying. Vanessa Hudgens presented the Legendary Eva Marie Saint, and giggled the whole time. I think she was nervous, and I don't blame her.
Being in the same room with people who have worked so hard and accomplished so much, i am inspired once again. Next year I will not be sitting on the outer tier of that little auditorium, but down center where dreams as big as mine belong. I have a lot of work and a lot of writing to do before that happens, but in the meantime, I'm off to hug the kitties and open up my swag bag. The bags were huge! They weigh like 20 lbs this year! Whoo hoo for loot! G'night y'all! Chow Bella!

A few small updates as I prepare for the 2010 Women In Film Crystal Lucy awards this June 1st by desperately trying to complete the script for THE CHAIR... this horror will be knocking out the box office hopefully by next year. Fingers crossed, and prayers abound as I attempt to finish it and pitch for funding this year. ![]()
I've joined the group CAPE; the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (http://www.capeusa.org/ ), which is just a fabulous group of industry makers and shakers introduced to me by producer Amy Cheong, who produced the PSA I directed for WIF. While I myself am not Asian, the group shares my goal of promoting diversity in film and television, and has welcomed me with open arms. Last weekend CAPE held a great interview with Daniel Dae Kim of 'Lost' fame and he was really gracious fielding everyone's questions and being grilled in the interview hot seat. RDF Inc is growing as we have acquired a new VP of Business, a VP of marketing, and a Producer for the next film, but details will follow as these roles are finalized and set in stone.
Stay tuned Red Rock fans!

Hey Red Rock Fans…supporters…fellow hope & dreamers. This bi-coastal LA, MD, up and down life has been crazy, but great. It’s been quite a while so I have a few updates to report. I attended the premiere of “Orphan”, which was really scary and very well executed. I sat in front of Isabelle Fuhrman, who played Esther. She’s only 11 and really sweet, but her acting chops are serious. CCH Pounder who played the orphanage nun was also nearby. I’ve been a fan of hers since Demon Night back in 95’. After the movie I told her “You were really great in the movie.”, and she said “I was really dead in the movie!” It was funny because if you’ve seen it you know what she means.
I went to the advanced screening of “It’s Complicated”, and it was Hi-Larious! Meryl Streep is great as a normal woman finding herself again after divorce and she brings that genuine complexity to life, but Alec Baldwin… OMG, so naughty. LOL The leads didn’t attend, but some of the other cast members did, and it was a great night.
The PSA I directed for LA County Child Support Services has just been completed. It will air on Santa Monica City TV 16 on this December 31st. It was a voluntary labor of love for the charity through the Women In Film PSA program, but it was worth it because the final product came out really well. The PSA’s are submitted for Emmy consideration, so my fingers are crossed, and prayers abound. I’ll have the video up on the website this week.
Christmas in Maryland with the fam fam was great! The movie “Precious” was painful and brilliant, and I hope it gets all the award recognition it deserves. Monique’s character will go down in history as one of thee greatest villains. Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” was very inspiring. The Chipmunk Squeakquel was really funny especially the diva way the Chipettes moved those hips. And Avatar in 3D is a breathtaking, action packed must see. For my Bollywood fans, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is Shahrukh Khan at his best; completely believable as a mousy nerdy guy trying to be cool for the love of his life.
I’m glad to be back in LA and ready to hit the film pavement. I am so excited as Red Diamond Films Inc. gears up to pitch its first feature film for funding this coming year. More details will follow. 2009 was hi and low, Our First Black President was sworn in, but we lost Michael, Farrah, David Carridine, Ed McMahon, Patrick Swayze, Dom DeLuise, Natasha Richardson, Brittany Murphy, many more and my Grandma Bernadette… These losses are so huge. RIP beloved.
Happy New Year Everyone!!! 2010 !

A great success from the Cannes experience has arrived! The wonderful short film and media distribution company Ouat media has contracted a deal to distribute Red Diamond Films Inc.'s newest short films Cuidado, Puppet and The Cafeteria. The deliverables are sent, the ink is dry, and now the sharing of these films worldwide begins! Ouat Media (http://www.ouatmedia.com/) is one of many great companies the shorts were pitched to in Cannes. This makes an awesome trip, just that much more worth it.

Ok, so through Women In Film and Gofobo I have been balancing my normal life with fabulous red carpet premieres at least every other week. It's like living in Cannes during the festival all over again; starting off the day in my regular work clothes then making a quick change into the little black dress and heels at night. Fun, fun, fun!
So I was at the LA premiere of 4 Christmases, on Nov 20th, and I saw Reese Witherspoon on the red carpet in her cute little navy dress and flipped up hair-do and I was like OMG, I just walked past one of my favorite people of all time! I mean I've been a fan since Man in the Moon, ok?! (That movie still makes me cry) Free popcorn and soda and Reese, plus the movie was flippin hilarious, I was in heaven, it was a great night. I also saw Sissy Spacek and a few other actors from the film. It was my first time at the famous Grauman's Chinese Theater and I must say it was very elegant. There are 2 parts to the red carpet; the side the actors walk where they do their interviews and a parallel carpet behind them where press and everyone else walks in, so you?re walking right along side the stars just separated by those heavy theater rope dividers and a few security personnel. Screaming fans were lined up across the street. And once I got inside, I thought there was a balcony, but nope, the stars are right there on the same floor watching the movie with everyone else.
On Dec 11th, I had the privilege of seeing the movie Marley & Me. This movie just made you want to buy a puppy so badly. The pickles this dog got into, the trouble he caused, that unconditional love a pet gives you even when you?re scolding them for eating most of your house, just priceless. The fact that it?s a true story just makes it even more touching. This premiere was at the Mann Theater on Broxton Ave in Westwood, so a little closer to home for me. John Mayer, was walking the carpet and giving his interviews before Jenn arrived. I saw the dog who played Marley, the kids from the movie, Alan Arkin, and Grey's Anatomy's Eric "McSteamy" Dane, who is also in the film. And yes ladies, he is too tasty for words. J I, unfortunately, missed Owen Wilson because I needed to grab dinner before the show, but I saw Jennifer Aniston on the red carpet in a hot little black dress. And in true sweetheart form, she jumped the theater rope dividers on the red carpet to go over to her fans and touch their hands. They went wild! I totally love her.
This Wednesday I will be going to the premiere of Yesman starring Jim Carrey. The trailers on tv have been cracking me up so I know I'm going to have a great time. I had tickets for the premiere at Grauman?s and
Broxton Ave, but I?m sticking close to home and giving the Hollywood tix to a close friend. I hope he?s at both. The only thing that I don?t like about the
Broxton Avetheater is that there are actually 2 theaters next to each other that make up the premiere site, and most of the general public watches the movie on one side, while the stars of the movie watch on the other, which lessens the experience a bit. So I have to get in early so I can be on the right side. Will tell y?all how it went. Love and hugs and God?s Blessings.

I know it's been long time no blog Red Rock fans, but this is a big one... As if the triumph of our first black president, barack obama, being elected wasn?t enough, your beloved ?little film company that could? is now putting the proverbial flag down in tinsel town. Chi-town was a blast, but the Red Rock has moved to Hollywood! Well?Culver City/LA adjacent to be exact, LOL. This past August, I, Nadia Garnier, RDF Inc. President/CEO, packed my bags and hauled tail West. And after 2 hardcore days of driving for 15 hours per day, with 2 kittens in tow, the Red Rock landed in LA safe and sound. I joined the LA branch of Women In Film, which is turning out to be quite rewarding. Along with great networking, and learning events, WIF offers members lots of advanced screenings to new films. Through WIF I?ve seen Pacino and DeNiro in rare form in Righteous kill, Keira Knightley totally earning an Oscar nom in my opinion in The Duchess, and Dakota Fanning blowing my mind yet again in The Secret Life of Bees. This little woman has chops that just keep giving. Everyone should see this movie, but BRING TISSUES! I will be working on some upcoming WIF PSA?s so I will keep you posted.
On a fun personal note, Sony Pictures is right across the street from my new church St. Augustine?s. And I?m doing some acting (or at least trying to get in where I fit in) on the side, so you all might see me in Heavy D?s new music video ?Long Distance Girlfriend?. The shoot was long and hard, but Director Frank E. Flowers was so chill and on top of his game I really learned something watching him. I also was blessed to meet Heavy, Nia Long (his love interest in the video), and Chris Tucker who was on set supporting his friends. Too too awesome! Heavy was very sweet. Nia was gorgeous, professional and very down to earth. And Chris just laid low and chilled. It was fun dancing to Heavy's song and I hope I get to do more projects like this. (See Pictures Here)
I?ve gotten some great feedback on my scripts for the Light and Unrequited, so I?m taking both ideas in a whole new, even better, direction and the 2nd drafts are underway. Through all of the great WIF networking events I?ve met some people who actually want to help me make things happen, so I will be writing and acting and working and praying and I hope you all pray for me too because I need it. Thanks and God Bless.
